War Wages On

We're at war in my house and the two little acres on which it sits. I declared war on our invaders 12 days ago and I fully intend to win. The problem is the enemy doesn't intend to lose. I suspect if I could repopulate my forces as rapidly as the aggressors do, it would be a fair battle. But I can't and it's not. As it stands, we are outnumbered by possibly as many as 2,000,000:1.

I'm quite convinced that surrender is not imminent - hasn't even occurred to their little flea-brains. There are no little white flags waving from the carpet, furniture or pets. And were I willing to get down on their level with a magnifying glass, I am pretty sure I would see flea launchers all over the back yard, cocked and aimed at either of our dogs outside to do their "business".

I have met the enemy and it is mean.

I am playing taps on mental Amazing Grace on the bagpipes in honor of the fallen fleas, and in hopes of many more to follow.
